Dear Readers,
What a surprise! I stumbled upon a rare writer’s award contest for unpublished, incomplete manuscripts. The surprise, however, was not the award category but the judges feedback on the first thirty pages of my work-in-progress Simply Betty (historical fiction novel).
Judges of the 2026 Page Turner Awards weighed in on Simply Betty:
From Falguni Jain, India – editor, writer, beta reader, book reviewer, and compulsive reader:
Falguni Jain Mon, 22/06/2026 – 16:11
The manuscript is well written, with engaging characters that add depth to the story. The narrative keeps the reader invested and creates a strong connection with the characters.
From freelance fiction book editor (mysteries and romance) and writer, reader, and editor of fan fiction, Jennifer Rarden, Kansas City, Kansas:
Jennifer Rarden Wed, 24/06/2026 – 14:28
This has a great premise. The characters are fun, the story flows well, and the dialogue feels natural.
I am encouraged to soldier on. The awards take place in November 2026.
Cheers!
Carolin
