Pre-Determined Before Birth

Continued from Blog God’s Design 1

Still not sure whether life is a series of random choices or pre-determined? The last blog post suggests life is a bit of both.

But the bible says God knows us before we are born – designed before birth. I dare anyone to find a stronger case for pre-determination than found in Psalm 139:14-16 (NJB):

You created my inmost self, 13

knit me together in my mother’s womb.

For so many marvels I thank you; 14

a wonder am I, and all our works are wonders.

You knew me through and through,

my being held no secrets from you, 15

when I was being formed in secret,

textured in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes could see my embryo, 16

In your book all my days were inscribed,

everyone that was fixed is there.

It sounds a lot like God’s choice and no one else’s that we get plunked down on earth whether we want it or not. And take a look again at verse 15 (NJB): “You knew me through and through, my being held no secrets from you.”

Before our birth we are known to God and we are with God, safe in the womb of her thoughts. Pre-determinedThen with our fate pre-determined to be wonders of creation we are cruelly spewed into a cold and unforgiving world. But birthed like all creation in a cataclysm of concentrated energy, for those who breathe and have blood, life is not without pain.

Yet, there is a loving intimacy suggested in the Psalm verses 13 and 14 (NJB): “You created my inmost self, knit me together in my mother’s womb…a wonder am I, and all your works are wonders.” This doesn’t sound cold and cruel but more like a careful, intentional fashioning; a delicate handling of something beautiful and precious.Pre-determined So maybe it is on the side of the womb before conception that we are pre-determined, where we are intrinsically part of God’s DNA and connected to her life-blood.

Our Purpose Pre-Determined

From the beginning, where ever that starts, we are God’s choice. Along with all creation we are the pre-determined expressions of something barely understood.

But why and to what end are we created?

As a toddler when our choice – seemingly random – starts to shape our world we begin to affirm or deny the life-giving force that created us. Pre-determinedWithin each choice lies the portal to reconnect with the “inmost self” where we live before birth. Therein is found the understanding of our purpose.

To be continued (refer next post).

Reflect on the question: Are we, indeed, pre-determined – carefully and intentionally crafted for a definite purpose?
